Mahendra Singh Dhoni, commonly known as M. S. Dhoni or simply Dhoni, is a former Indian cricketer and one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket. He was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand), India.

Dhoni is considered one of the best finishers in limited-overs cricket, known for his aggressive batting style and cool-headed captaincy. He is also known for his exceptional wicketkeeping skills, being one of the best wicketkeepers India has ever produced. Dhoni is often referred to as "Captain Cool" for his calm and composed demeanor on the field, even under pressure.

Dhoni made his debut for the Indian cricket team in December 2004 and went on to represent India in all three formats of the game: Test, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 (T20) matches. However, he is best remembered for his success as the captain of the Indian cricket team, particularly in the limited-overs formats.

Under Dhoni's captaincy, India achieved several significant milestones. He led the Indian team to victory in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. He is the only captain in the world to have won all three major ICC trophies.

Apart from his success as a captain, Dhoni is also known for his aggressive and powerful batting. He is considered one of the best finishers in the limited-overs formats, known for his big hitting and ability to handle pressure in crunch situations. Dhoni has numerous records to his name, including the most runs scored by a wicketkeeper-batsman in ODIs, the most not-outs in ODIs, and the most stumpings in international cricket.

Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020, bringing an end to his illustrious career. However, he continues to be involved in the sport and is regarded as one of the most iconic and respected cricketers in the history of Indian cricket.
